NEW DRUM BOOK - BEGINNER TO BAND!
Hey Everybody,
Excited that my new book, Beginner to Band is now out in the world! It is available as a digital download direct from the publisher here: www.onlinedrummer.com or as a hard copy book via Amazon.
This book has a very specific drumming goal in mind – playing music and songs with other people in a band. Beginner to Band was designed as a practical and useful guide for learning to play the drums, and can be used as a self-directed guide or along with an instructor. Written with the beginner in mind and with clear and simple directions, each section builds upon the last to create a strong drumming foundation through effective exercises.
Every unit is clearly organized into three distinct sections. The focus in the “Essential Elements” section is reading, technique and dexterity, while the “Skill Builders” section will apply new concepts the drum kit. The “Tune-in and Turn It Up” section puts these new concepts into practice by providing basic song templates to jam with.
Beginner to Band takes the beginning drummer from basic note values and fundamental techniques and skills through using all four limbs and more complex co-ordination and grooves. It is a practical guide for mastering the fundamentals and includes the essential knowledge you will need to succeed. This complete guide will have you playing along with recordings in no time and prepare you for playing with other musicians.
There is so much great technology at our fingertips now and one of the most useful for learning drums with Beginner to Band are the applications and functions that allow us to change the tempo of recorded music. From apps like Anytune to the settings in YouTube – there are now a multitude of ways that we can make learning to play along with tunes more accessible to all levels. The stumbling block of tunes being too fast to play along with has now been practically eliminated. Some apps also allow you to easily loop portions of the songs to help with practice.
I sincerely hope this learning tool helps many more aspiring drummers reach their goals. Thanks to all of my students that have helped me create this method by letting me try everything out on you! Thanks also to Nate Brown at Onlinedrummer.com for the editing work and for publishing Beginner to Band and my previous books, Chart-Topping Drum Fills and Rhythm Reader. I have been using these materials with my students with much success - teaching daily continues to help me create more effective lesson materials like this book and my previous titles. I continue to be thankful for music and drumming in my life and enjoy passing on my love of drumming to others. Rock on!
